This dual physician couple has paid off over $700,000 of student debt only four years out of training. They are both family docs living in California. They had the great insight that when you choose to live in California you need to view your cost of living as your luxury item. How did they do this so quickly? They lived frugally, got rid of their expensive car and dove into tackling their debt with extreme focus. They feel liberated after getting rid of that debt and love the flexibility they now have. After the interview we will be talking about Rich Dad Poor Dad for Finance 101.

He tells us part of his secret to success is to choose where you live wisely and own your own business. He said owning his own surgery center made a massive difference to his happiness and his wealth because he got to control the way the practice was run, how efficient it was, who worked there etc. He is a testament of what can happen if you live below your means and invest wisely. He wants us all to remember to find joy in all stages of life and not just live for retirement. After the interview we will be talking about estate taxes for finance 101.

Today we talk with a nurse who is currently in school to become a CRNA and is officially a millionaire. Roughly 10 years ago he and his wife took control of their finances. He said there was some tough conversations as they educated themselves about how to become financially literate and what their goals should be and how to reach them. But once they were on the same page they were able to start crushing their goals. Their big goal was to be millionaires by 40 and they got there a few years early. He is now passionate about giving back both financially and educating coworkers about how to get started with taking control of their financial life. After the interview Dr. Dahle gives his thoughts on how to get started for finance 101.
We estimate that 80% of doctors need, want, and should use a financial advisor and/or an investment manager. Some investment gurus such as Dr. William Bernstein think my estimate is way too low. At any rate, if you want to use an advisor temporarily or for your entire life, there is no reason to feel guilty about it—just make sure you are getting good advice at a fair price. If you need help updating your financial plan or just getting one in place, check out our list of recommended financial advisors at https://whitecoatinvestor.com/financial-advisors.

Today we are answering your questions. We talk about capital gains taxes when selling a vacation home, then get into the age old debate about if it is a good idea to buy a house during residency. Dr. Dahle gives advice on things to think about when you are shopping for a new car, then he gives ideas for things to think about when considering buying into a practice. Finally, we answer a few questions about taxes.
At some point in our financial lives, it will be time to buy a home. A physician mortgage can be a good vehicle for a young doctor who’s just out of school and has a more effective place to use their money than on a big down payment. These loans allow doctors to secure a mortgage with fewer restrictions and a lower down payment than a conventional mortgage. But if you’re further advanced in your career or deeper into your journey to financial freedom, buying a home with a conventional mortgage and then, later on, potentially refinancing that loan to a better rate with a shorter time frame could be a great move. Wherever you are in your financial journey, make sure you use the mortgage that will be most financially beneficial for you. Hop over to our recommended tab to learn more about all of your mortgage and refinancing options at https://whitecoatinvestor.com/mortgage
